Tips

Order
The order that you chose to add things to your animal can save you work.  More delicate and small pieces should be added last because they can get ruined as you try to add other pieces.  You will also be able to attach large pieces more securely because you will not be worried about smashing more delicate pieces by applying to much pressure.

Inspiration
You can find inspiration for your art projects by trying to make something that is important to you.  My first post was on how to make an elephant because it has a special meaning for my family and I.  My other posts on this blog have been favorite animals of family and friends that I made as gifts.  Your artwork will be as special as you make it.

Detail

Adding details can be an easy way to make your clay animal look better.  Adding a collar to a dog or a white patch of fur to your horses nose will make your animal more interesting and life-like without much effort.  The best details will enhance your project with little effort.

Practice

Making clay animals becomes easier with practice.  As you try new ideas, you will find better ways to make your animals and fix mistakes.  The key is to have fun learning and be persistent.

Picture

A picture of the animal you are trying to make is very helpful.  Studying the shape and details of the real animal or a picture will make it easier to make a good clay replica.  The picture will also help you come up with cool ideas that you might not of thought of while making the animal strictly from memory.
